Is Fargate cheaper than Cloud Run?
For a container of 1 vCPU and 2 GiB that runs all month, in each service's cheapest region: Fargate $36.04, Cloud Run, instance-based $57.82, Cloud Run, request-based $76.21 and Container Apps $78.84, Fargate Spot $10.93. Cloud Run with request-based billing charges only while requests run, so a service that is idle most of the time costs far less there.
What is the difference in how they bill?
Fargate charges per second for the vCPU and memory of each running task, with a one-minute minimum, and no request fees. Cloud Run charges either for the whole life of each instance (instance-based, cheaper per second, no request fees) or only while it handles requests (request-based, plus $0.40 per million requests). Container Apps charges an active rate while a replica works and a lower idle rate when it waits.
